Looking for a hearty, healthy, and incredibly easy dinner? This Beef and Cabbage Skillet is your new weeknight hero! It's packed with flavor, comes together in one pan, and is surprisingly satisfying.
Ingredients
Yield: 4 servings
Main
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 head green cabbage (about 4-5 cups), thinly sliced or chopped
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried caraway seeds (optional, but recommended for flavor)
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley or dill, chopped, for garnish (optional)
Preparation
Step 1
Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess grease and set beef aside.
Step 2
Add chopped onion to the same skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Step 3
Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until it starts to wilt, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 4
Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet. Stir in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, caraway seeds (if using), and smoked paprika. Bring to a simmer.
Step 5
Reduce heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until cabbage is tender-crisp to your liking. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with fresh parsley or dill if desired.
Tips
- Serve this skillet meal as-is, or with a dollop of sour cream for extra richness.
- For a bit of tang, add a splash of apple cider vinegar at the end of cooking.
- If you don't have caraway seeds, a pinch of dill can provide a similar aromatic note.
