When you need a satisfying meal on the table fast, this Speedy Saucy Pork and Cabbage skillet is your new go-to! It's a fantastic combination of tender pork, sweet caramelized cabbage, and a savory, slightly tangy sauce that comes together in one pan. Minimal effort, maximum flavor – that's what we're all about!

Ingredients

Yield: 4 servings

Main

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 lb ground pork (or ground turkey/chicken)
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 cups green cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger (optional)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice or noodles, for serving
  • Chopped green onions, for garnish

Preparation

  1. Step 1

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add ground pork and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain off any excess fat and set pork aside.

  2. Step 2

Add thinly sliced onion to the skillet and cook until softened and lightly caramelized, about 5 minutes. Add the sliced cabbage and cook, stirring occasionally, until it wilts and becomes tender, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Stir in minced garlic and grated ginger (if using). Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

  4. Step 4

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using).

  5. Step 5

Return the cooked pork to the skillet. Pour the sauce over the pork and cabbage mixture. Toss to coat everything evenly. Cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.

  6. Step 6

Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot over cooked rice or noodles, garnished with chopped green onions.

Tips

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute ground pork with a firm block of crumbled tofu or extra mushrooms.
  • Don't skip the step of browning the pork well – it adds a lot of flavor.
  • If you like more crunch, add a handful of shredded carrots along with the cabbage.
