Ingredients
Yield: 4 servings
Main
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 cup water or chicken broth
- 2 tsp cornstarch
- Green onions, sliced, for garnish
- Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
- Cooked rice or noodles, for serving
Preparation
Step 1
Heat sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add ground pork and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain off any excess grease.
Step 2
Add the finely diced onion to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and grated fresh ginger, cooking for another minute until fragrant.
Step 3
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, red pepper flakes (if using), water or chicken broth, and cornstarch until smooth.
Step 4
Pour the sauce mixture over the pork in the skillet. Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring constantly, for 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and coats the pork.
Step 5
Remove from heat. Serve immediately over cooked rice or noodles, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
Tips
- Add a handful of frozen peas or shredded carrots along with the sauce for extra veggies.
- Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level.
- This dish is also fantastic served in lettuce cups for a lighter, low-carb option.
