Ingredients

Yield: 4 servings

Main

  • 1 lb broccoli florets
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (for finishing)
  • 1/2 tsp sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

Preparation

  1. Step 1

Steam or blanch broccoli florets for 3-5 minutes until tender-crisp. Alternatively, microwave with a splash of water until tender-crisp. Drain well.

  2. Step 2

While broccoli cooks, heat olive oil or sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

  3. Step 3

Add the cooked broccoli to the skillet. Pour in the soy sauce and rice vinegar. Toss to coat evenly.

  4. Step 4

Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce slightly thickens and coats the broccoli.

  5. Step 5

Remove from heat, drizzle with the finishing sesame oil, and sprinkle with sesame seeds if using. Serve hot.

Tips

  • Don't overcook the broccoli in the first step; you want it tender-crisp for the best texture.
  • Adjust the amount of ginger and garlic to your taste preferences.
  • A pinch of red pepper flakes adds a nice subtle heat if you like a little kick.
