Meet your new favorite weeknight hero: the One-Pan Sausage Gnocchi Bake! This dish brings together tender potato gnocchi and flavorful Italian sausage in a vibrant tomato sauce, all finished with a bubbly cheese topping. The best part? Everything comes together in a single baking dish, meaning less cleanup and more time to enjoy this incredibly comforting meal.

Ingredients

Yield: 4 servings

Main

  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or hot), casing removed
  • 1 (16 oz) package potato gnocchi, uncooked
  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional, for extra richness)
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil, chopped, for garnish (optional)

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. Step 2

In a large oven-safe skillet or 9x13 inch baking dish, combine the uncooked Italian sausage (break it into small pieces), uncooked gnocchi, marinara sauce, chicken broth, and heavy cream (if using). Stir well to combine all ingredients.

  3. Step 3

Sprinkle with dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Gently mix again to ensure everything is evenly distributed.

  4. Step 4

Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Remove the foil, stir gently, then sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses over the top. Return to the oven, uncovered, and bake for another 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.

  6. Step 6

Let rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.

Tips

  • For a spicier kick, use hot Italian sausage and add an extra pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • If you don't have heavy cream, you can omit it for a lighter sauce, or use a splash of milk for a slightly creamy texture.
