  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 12 oz pasta (penne, linguine, or spaghetti work great)
  • Fresh basil, chopped, for garnish

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Reserve about 1/2 cup of pasta water before draining.

    While pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant (do not brown).

    Add drained pasta directly to the sauce. Toss to coat evenly. If the sauce seems too thick, add a splash or two of the reserved pasta water until desired consistency is reached.
